Social Media Networking Game
I just saw a post in one of my Facebook Groups indicating that everyone should buy some stock in someone who was rising quickly in the social stock market, and they gave the link to check out. Ok, so I’ll bite. The link took me to a social site called “Empire Avenue“.
Empire Avenue is a stock market based social media game that lets users buy and sell shares of individual people and websites. Personally, I’m not usually involved in social media games, but for some reason, this seemed interesting to me.
When you sign up, you choose your user name which becomes your ticker symbol, and away you go. As I was setting up my profile, I was flooded with direct messages (called shouts) from users who were welcoming me and buying my stock. Honestly, it was coming so fast, I could barely keep up with just thanking people. An hour had gone by and I found myself still on the site – connecting and thanking, and now buying stock in other users.
Empire Avenue is truly engaging, almost addicting. You almost become similar to a day trader, watching your stock rise and connecting with other users. The dashboard shows how many lists you are on, number of recommendations, number of shareholders, portfolios, and number of communities you have joined. You can set up your profile with live links to your website and add tags for your keywords on the dashboard at the bottom.
After using this site for an hour and a half, I had to do a quick blog post about it. Empire Avenue is very interesting and, as mentioned before, almost addicting. So, if you’re up for the social stock market, you may want to check it out. But, set a timer or you may be there longer than you realize.
